Tall Ship Saint Lawrence 2: Around Gaspé

July 30 - August 17

Free

Join the crew in Gaspé, a scenic town near the head of Baie de Gaspé. Sailing down the baie we’ll pass Forillon National Park, home to many historic buildings and landmarks on the shore of the Notre Dame Mountains. Passing under le Bout du Monde, where the Appalation Mountains plunge into the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, we’ll turn northwest and out into the open gulf.

Crossing the gulf, we’ll pass the eastern cape of Anticosti Island – the graveyard of the gulf – home to numerous lighthouses, shipwrecks, sea birds, and breathtaking scenery. Leaving the island in our wake we’ll sail north to Kagashka, from the Innu word quegasca, a small village in Cote-Nord, and literally the end of the road. Kegashka has been inhabited by aboriginal peoples for countless generations, and boasts unique shell lined trails, intriguing natural splendor, and a vibrant history.

Sailing along the low, rugged shorelines and bays of Basse-Cote-Nord, we’ll pass a number of bird sanctuaries, home to myriad species of seabirds. These rugged shorelines and seascapes are home to a variety of marine mammals and species of shark – including the basking shark and greenland shark.

Arriving in Harrington Harbour – “The Island of Tranquility” – named one the most beautiful villages in Quebec, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. Harrington Harbour has the appearance and feel of a traditional Newfoundland outport, and is one of the most northern villages on the Quebec side of the Gulf. A boardwalk winds through this majestic fishing outport, home to a thriving traditional outdoor oriented culture, adding to the charm and uniqueness of this far off-the-beaten-track jewel of Quebec.

Leaving Harrington Harbour full of memories and unique experiences, we will set sail back toward Gaspé around the eastern cape of Anticosti Island. This voyage will be one of the longer open water sailing experiences of this summer. Enjoy the freedom, exhilaration, and challenge of sailing a tall ship through the open Gulf of the St. Lawrence. With whales for company traveling this inspiring seascape, you will feel like you’ve journeyed back in time. This expedition will provide unforgettable moments of introspection, laughter, friendship, and reflection in some of the most breathtaking scenery in North America.

You’ll make memories that will last a lifetime.

Valued at $2,700 – the S2S Sailing Access Fund  supports youth who would otherwise not be able to experience the adventure and wonder of sail training by covering some or all travel and program costs.
